Green Crowd

Green crowd is a project made in the course 12135 Waste management at Roskilde Festival.

The waste in the camping area consists of aluminum cans, food, wrapping paper and broken festival chairs. Sorting the waste has been streamlined by the festival for several years, so it is now possible to recycle properly. The festival guests' mindset of what is acceptable are, however, often different from when they are outside the festival.

The overall goal of Green Crowd is therefore to address the root causes of the large amount of waste that Roskilde Festival experiences every year and try to have a positive influence on the behavior of festival guests. The students will collect qualitative and quantitative data concerning the festival guests' waste and their perception of how it occurs. It can provide a basis for solutions that can nudge festival guests against more appropriate behavior.

The group made a questionnaire on an online service where guests would fill in. The participating festival guests thought that waste is a problem at the festival - mostly because it affects the environment. As expected, festival guests had a different relationship to waste at the Roskilde Festival than in everyday life. They feel it's a matter of waste disposal or reuse at Roskilde Festival, and otherwise they forget when they are drunk.
