Soap fun

Soap Fun is a workshop that started in 2016 at the festival. It is about giving festival guest the opportunity to make their own hand soap in a festival-friendly laboratory.

Here you can learn about how a hand soap is made and why it is important. The workshop fell in the taste of the festival guests, as there is a broad consensus that soap was a shortcoming at the festival. Hand soap is not available at the toilets and most of the festival guests use spirits or do not wash their hands.

The students will also inform festival guests about the importance of using soap. At the same time, they talked about the chemistry of soap and why it's best to have a one at the festival.

The chemical special of soap is that it is both water and fat soluble. That's because a soap molecule has two ends: a lipophilic part that is positively charged, and a hydrophilic part that is negatively charged. The lipophilic part will settle on the dirt and the hydrophilic part will thus turn outwards. As the hydrophilic part is negatively charged, the small fat lumps will repel each other and dissolve, then rinse them off with water.
