Water not waste

Water is an expensive resource and there are several good arguments to economise on it. By reducing the amount of water we can also reduce the amount of energy for pumping, chemicals for treatment and the need for drainage capacity.

But reducing water consumption may seem unimaginable. Therefore, an obvious first step is an increased awareness of what the water is used on. Roskilde Festival has stated that they want better insight on their water consumption. This insight they want both to use to save on the water and the economy. The students behind this project have therefore investigated the water use:

  • Water consumption per person in different baths
  • Water consumption in selected food stalls
  • Timely development, peak hours and general patterns of water consumption

To investigate how precise measurements of water consumption can be used as a basis for water conservation and the effect it has, students collaborate with the company Aqubiq, which is a spin-out company from DTU.

Aqubiq has developed a system for more accurate water measuring, allowing users to monitor consumption and see what the water is used for. This knowledge provides insights that can help to focus on consumption and optimize it.

Technical data for RF about where and what the water is used for and how much they are (stalls, baths, toilets, etc.). They know there were 18 million liters of water all in 2016, and with the rough but good estimates the group has made, we now know that about 37% of this goes to food stalls and 5% for bathing.
