Stories in the shade

"Climate change is the defining issue of our time and now is the defining moment to do something about it.  At this point there is still time to take up the challenge of climate change, but it requires an unprecedented effort from all sectors of society.” - Climate Action Summit 2019

The need to act is recognized by Roskilde Festival and is reflected in their ambitions regarding sustainability which include environmental awareness.

In its Sustainability Strategy 2016-2019 Roskilde Festival prioritizes eight action areas in order to achieve its ambitions in regard to environmental sustainability. One of the focuses is Analysis and Documentation. This area is also recognized by an environmental analysis of 279 music festivals in the UK where the first overall recommendation is to "Measure impact and progress through robust reporting".

This project seeks to develop a Green House Gas (GHG) Inventory for Roskilde Festival and to introduce a data-collection scheme for calculating the carbon footprint of the two largest sources of emissions; Audience Travel and Energy.

The project involved talking to relevant stakeholders within energy and fuel consumption to receive the relevant data. With the data that the students were able to get a hold of they created an estimate of the CO2 emission. The result can be seen above.
