DTU Science Show

Denmark needs people with skills within science and technology in order to create sustainable solutions to present and future problems in society. The journey towards becoming a scientist or an engineer always starts the same way; with a spark of interest and a desire for knowledge and the phenomena of the world we live in.

DTU Science Show hope to ignite this spark amongst the young people attending Roskilde Festival 2019.

However on the festival, both young and old have the opportunity to get very close to the experiments and even try some of them out for themselves. These experiments could be plasma from a tesla coil moving to the music or experiencing music played through a chain of people. It could be tasting ice cream with beer taste made instantaneously using liquid nitrogen or building your own rocket car and trying it out. Finally, it could also be using UV light to see if you are applying hand sanitizer to your whole hand, or if you’re missing some spots.

All these experiments were developed specifically for Roskilde Festival considering the important things of a festival: music, food, drinks and of course good hygiene. The latter being very hard to fulfill in the mostly unsanitary surroundings of the festival.

We received great attention and feedback from the people we interacted with during our shows and stands. We spent a lot of time interacting with festival goers and had many interesting conversations. Furthermore, we succeeded in drawing people to Techlab and create activity in the area. The experiments, which we developed in the month before the festival worked well in combination with the experiments we already had before the festival.
