Pick Pack

The concept PickPack is both a product and a service. Special-designed bags are distributed by the volunteers on the campsites during the last days of the festival. The distribution of PickPack will be in the same fashion as the current distribution of trash bags on the campsites. PickPack is meant to remind people to bring their camping equipment back home, easing the following waste management at Roskilde Festival. It also solves the practical problem of losing the original bag from tents/sleeping bags/sleeping pads, and gathers all the camping equipment in one bag.

The service is user-friendly for our target group – young tired, sleep-deprived festival-goers with a hangover, who initially had the intention of bringing their camping equipment home. We solve this problem by stepping in in a positive way, giving them a physical reminder towards the end of the festival. PickPack can be reused outside of Roskilde Festival, promoting Roskilde Festival and the Bring It Home initiative off-season.

The bag is formed as a sling, making it forgiving to not tightly packed camping equipment. It features a set of handles making it easy and comfortable to carry around, pockets for tent pegs, slides for tent poles and strings for securing the content of the sling, making a simple packing experience. It is created from repurposed tents and tarpaulin and includes straps and strings chosen to heighten comfort and functionality. The upcycled materials are used to create a further focus on the environment. The bag is lastly decorated with the Roskilde Festival logo and guide marks

Positive response was found when testing the concept PickPack both in regards to the simple design of the bag but also in regards to handing out the bags in the last days of the festival. Additionally, there was a high response of feedback from the test-users after the festival by approaching them through text messages. The gathering of feedback after the festival was made by texting with the 36 different participants. This platform was chosen as a test to investigate whether or not it would be more efficient that the common survey sent by mail. Results showed that it is possible to extract fast and exact feedback from users by sending a private text message.
